Hi claudio, Interesting - I just took a quick look at the touchdesigner site and it looks pretty cool. I don't know how much time we'll be able to devote to developing for it, since it's Windows-only - we are Mac-based though we have a windows mac…

Wow - that's a really nice use for the tape! Any photos? This would be super cool to share out more widely.
-
Hey Claudio, We're actually not too familiar with touchdesigner or madmapper - are those from the Max/MSP world? Blinkytape itself isn't ideal for direect control by DMX but alternative connections should be possible for integration into most setu…

Thanks for sharing, Scott!

Hey all - This should now be fixed. So sorry about that - long story short, the tool that we use to generate the site, "Jekyll" changed the way it interprets links and some stuff effectively got moved around and links were broken. Sorry about …
-
Actually I just gave it a go - it seems like it adds a weird jittery effect at low brightnesses. Not sure I like it. Let us know how your experiments go.
-
Oh wow. I don't see why it wouldn't work - grab the update and recompile with #DITHER 1 - I'll give it a shot as soon as I can!
-
That is so rad! We must blog it!
-
Thanks for letting me know - glad it worked out!

Hi there! Sorry you've run into some trouble. Matt and I think this sounds like the tape got a bad hex file upload and the reset should help - basically it seems like the board is booting up, then it runs into an issue when it tries to execute the…

There are definitely a lot of possibilities and I understand that it can be very daunting...but if you have a specific idea we can help you make it happen. The tricky thing is converting something like the examples you sent into something that will…

Hi jravetch, We've found that doing the reset with sewing needles doesn't have a huge impact on how weather-resistant the strip is. The silicone seals itself back up pretty well; I've had to do it a few times and I can't even see the holes that ar…

That's very cool, but there are a lot of ways to go about that, so it ends up being a very open-ended problem. In addition to DiscoParty, maybe check out this audio visualizer: http://blinkinlabs.com/post/spectrogram.html If you have specific idea…

Also, it should help if you were to use Arduino to load one of the new demo sketches like Colorswirl - we made some updates to the sketch loaded on production tapes, and it should be more stable. See this page for more: http://blinkinlabs.com/blink…

Hey Peter - Sorry about that! Sounds like you figured out how to charge it -- you use the smaller micro USB. If that last letter won't stop blinking after a few hours, it's effectively fully charged, I wouldn't worry about it. The letters do work…

Gotcha. There's actually a lot more that's been done in Processing than Python - if you're just looking for cool patterns, I'd try out those examples. Though it should be possible to port algorithms you've found to either platform with a little bi…

Oh, sorry, I see that there isn't a nice readme...however everything is in this BlinkyTape class: https://github.com/Blinkinlabs/BlinkyTape_Python/blob/master/BlinkyTape.py You should be able to use this very similarly to the one you're asking abou…

Hi Danny, I think someone else had previously asked about this - yes there should be a lot of stuff that can just be ported. However, I don't think that library will work as it's intended for use with a different type of LED strip. But - there …

Hmm, that's a strange one... What version of Processing do you have? This might be an issue with the low-level serial code. We also recently made some changes to the "SerialSelector" code in many of the examples and it should now work on Linux.
-
Awesome, just got it! Thanks a ton for sharing. We might clean it up but this will definitely help.
-
Hey dat, We're looking for some other routines to include in the default firmware for BlinkyTape - would you be interested in contributing BlinkyShimmer? If so just let us know where we might be able to find the arduino port. If not, that's tot…

Thanks for hanging in and glad you're enjoying it!
-
Right, sorry, I think I was actually leading you astray there - that's actually a more complicated and manual way to do this. Here's another attempt: revert the main file in the example back to the original (put s.m_port back) and then replace the…

Hey there -- Sorry about that. That's odd, I don't see why our code isn't working. Maybe the Java Serial isn't returning a proper list of serial port name strings. I think you're going to have to manually connect rather than using our list-base…

Awesome, good to hear!
-
Not right now, but we haven't forgotten! Stay tuned for future developments.

Got it. Yes, a few bytes at a time, then do the write to the serial port, then a very short sleep...probably best to just have a look the code: https://github.com/Blinkinlabs/BlinkyTape_Processing/blob/master/examples/DiscoParty/BlinkyTape.pde

Hey flok, This is interesting, and I don't think we've heard of this issue before. So you're doing everything direct, sending values out over serial with custom C++ code? If that's the case, my guess is that something is getting out of sync som…

Any luck, Jim?

Hey Danny! Thanks for starting a thread. I think the biggest issue with porting that stuff over to BlinkyTape is that it's designed for a different type of LED strip. However...I think that you might find that you could re-use some of that code…
